Shorewest Shares: How to Avoid Homebuyer’s Remorse

In a recent survey of 2,000 homebuyers, 80% said they regretted at least one thing about their home. Guess what the number one complaint is about? The home isn’t quite big enough.

So how do you know how much home to buy? After getting preapproved by Wisconsin Mortgage Corporation, you know what you can afford. But that doesn’t mean you should spend it all. Shorewest recommends these tips to avoid the remorse after purchasing your new home:

  • Don’t give in on your core requirements. If you know having two bathrooms is important for you, but the house you really liked only had one, keep shopping. Don’t settle for a house if it doesn’t meet your needs.
  • Don’t cave to a partner or a spouse. If you believe you won’t be happy in the new house, don’t let your wife/husband/partner talk you into it.
  • Know your give-in points. Everyone looks at houses with a wish list, but some items can be compromised. Tiny kitchens might be a deal breaker, but a big family room might be something you can live without.
  • Don’t get caught up in the heat of the moment. Overpaying is one of the biggest sources of remorse, especially in a bidding war. Bidding against other buyers can be exciting but it can throw your budget out the window.
  • Don’t lose your edge. If your home inspection finds mold or the appraisal comes in much lower than the sell price, stand your ground.
  • Do your research. Shorewest.com has up-to-date information regarding the listing, inventory and more.

Your Shorewest Agent will make sure you don’t have homebuyer remorse. They are your trusted source through the buying process, making sure your happiness will continue in your new home.
